She chirps cheerily to Gumshoe on the phone:] I hope he can hold his breath long enough!
[...yes, she was partly doing this to troll him a little. But he wouldn't come to any harm with those dolphins around, anyway. And she was there too, just in case maybe he stubbed a toe on a sea urchin or something.
Some of them, upon swimming through the opening, linger around in the cavern, which is spacious enough for them to keep on playing. The others keep moving into the second cavern.]
1/2
Once he's ready, Edgeworth takes a deep breath and dives again to get a clearer look at where he's supposed to go. It did seem like the dolphins were heading towards some spot under the water... and sure enough, even as ill-adapted to the ocean as his eyes are, he can vaguely make out a tunnel entrance under the water. He resurfaces yet again, then swims a bit closer to the lagoon.]
(The very idea of having to hold my breath for that long is... disconcerting.)
2/2
(What are you thinking, Miles?! You can't allow such weaknesses to rule you! The past is long gone and resolved; it's time to act like an adult instead of a nine-year-old boy!)
[That internal resolution having been made, Edgeworth swims as close to the entrance as he can while still remaining on the surface, takes as deep a breath as he can muster, and twists within the water in order to swim down towards the tunnel he's been directed to.]

[Kay is oblivious to the returning dolphins already frolicking in the lagoon, and doesn't even flinch when they splash her. She has been out of the water for a long enough time that her pink top has dried out quite a bit - that is, until the dolphins did their work.
On the bright side, Edgeworth has a lot to look at while in the completely submerged cave, apart from the lingering dolphins that seem to be waiting for him - or possibly watching him. There are starfish, sea urchins, the occasional fish staying out of sight in rock crevices because there are dolphins around (then again, the dolphins aren't even hunting for food)...
If he only knew that Kay sometimes mimicked naturalists and marine biologists in that cave...]
no subject
And before he knows it, he's out of the tunnel and frantically scrambling to the surface. It doesn't even matter to him that he's reaching up to grab a dolphin instead of heading over to the actual stable land, just that he gets a chance to breathe.]
1/2
She gasps and covers the phone's mouthpiece. Wow, was it really that hard to get through the tunnel? Edgeworth looked rather...panicked.]
Mr. Edgeworth?!
no subject
I know you're in trouble, Gummy, but Mr. Edgeworth is here if you wanna talk to him!
[This time, without even bothering to cover the mouthpiece, she calls out to Edgeworth:] Hey, Gummy's on the phone! You can play with the dolphins later!

"Playing" is hardly how I'd describe it, Kay.
[This declaration is quite loud, in order to make sure that the detective hears it as well.]
no subject
[Kay had been laughing along with Gumshoe; his laughter was infectious and he seemed to have forgotten that he was in trouble. Either that, or maybe now he's out of trouble.
She watches Edgeworth let go of the dolphin and swim over to her as her laughter is reduced to giggles, although there are tears in her eyes from laughing. Thankfully the rock is big enough for both of them to sit - and small enough that Kay doesn't have to exert a lot of effort if she wants to push him back into the water.
It's that thought that keeps her smiling despite his stare. At least the giggles are gone, and since the other line has gone quiet, Gumshoe has heard Edgeworth loud and clear.
She offers him the waterproof cellphone and has to stifle another giggle when she looks at him. Come on, it's almost comical, how serious he looks while dripping wet and after his fun dolphin ride.]
no subject
In any case, the prosecutor is quick to take the offered cellphone and begin speaking to Gumshoe.]
Aren't you supposed to be on duty, Detective?
...
The dolphin was the nearest object on the surface, nothing more. I couldn't risk sinking while I was catching my breath.
...
Absolutely not, Detective! If you breathe a single word of this to anyone, it is your salary which runs the risk of drowning. Do I make myself clear?!
...
...Very good. Now, return to your work.
[Don't mind Edgeworth as he hangs up your phone for you, Kay.]
no subject
She turns to the prosecutor with a cheerful smile, but on the bright side, she's not giggling anymore.]
So, how was your trip through the Faraday Cave?
no subject
[That's true enough, isn't it?]
no subject
[She nods toward a couple of dolphins swimming closer to them, more precisely to Edgeworth's side of the rock.]
no subject
[...Well, all that's technically true...]
no subject
[For some reason Kay looks immensely proud of that. Almost as if she's praising him more instead of the fact that she's correct.]
no subject
(Blast! I can't refute that without exposing one of my weaknesses!)
...I concede that I technically made it into this place without it.
[...That admission is slow, pained, and said through gritted teeth.]
no subject
...What's wrong? Are you okay? [She was probably wrong in assuming Edgeworth was done freaking out by the time the dolphin gave him a thrill ride.]
no subject
[...That protest was just a bit too loud.]
no subject
Normally Kay would respond by mimicking his objecting, but this seemed like an inopportune time for joking. She raises a tentative hand.]
Uh...you don't sound fine to me. C'mon, we're the only two people here, no one else'd know.
And yes, I know it's technically one human and one mermaid, okay?
no subject
no subject
What? No! [Kay stops herself, and sighs, running a hand through her bangs. She raises both hands and adopts a calmer, more serious tone.] I promise I won't laugh.
