This is my permanent Kay Faraday open post. Spam me with prompts, picture prompts, AUs, and the like. Indicate canon point or universe when necessary. Please note that I don't do slash, smut, anything sexual or anything overly and excessively violent.

Choose a canon point, any canon point! Even from AAI2, why not.	7-8 years later, AJ/DD era. Prosecutor who studied under Miles Edgeworth. Still hyper and makes thief jokes. Still the Yatagarasu.

Lived with Edgeworth and Stitch. Recruited Ema, Trucy and Maya into the Yatagarasu. 19 years old. Had college plans.	Can command and talk to crows, replicate voices and sounds perfectly, and use Charter Magic. Juror for Teen Court.

Or bring air down, as you mentioned. For that matter, I suppose that light and algae alone could be used to regenerate a sufficient level of oxygen in a container of air for reuse.

[The prosecutor takes another long sip of his iced tea.]

That's the spirit! We've got you thinking like a merman! And actually, that's what some of these things do!

[She gestures to the statuettes on the blanket.]

[Edgeworth smirks triumphantly at Kay's second exclamation, then turns his gaze to the statuettes at her prompting.]

Oh? Do tell.

...Okay, maybe "think" isn't the right word...

[KAY...

Anyway, she takes the mermaid statuette and unscrews the top. She shows the open base to Edgeworth, which contains only a crudely made black choker necklace with a glistening turquoise gem in the shape of a tail fin.]

But you can be a merman if you put this on. You'll be able to breathe underwater, your legs will turn into a tail...the works! And you'll be able to sing your very own siren song! [Kay sounds like she's doing a salesman pitch.]

Even the ability to affect minds through song is included? Huh. Does that ability have some physical root, then, or is there something more than a mere change of shape involved in this item's workings?

[Don't mind Edgeworth as he reaches for the choker.]

(If this really does what she claims, then it seems as though a brief time in such a form could provide valuable insight into the basic capabilities of victims and criminals alike of that species.)

[The choker itself feels like rough, gritty velvet, and the gem is as smooth as it looks. Kay allows him to take it, and the ghost of a smile plays upon her lips as he does. She makes a mental note to capture the moment Edgeworth becomes a merman - even for a short while - on camera.]

It's something more, yeah. But becoming a merperson won't last too long. I think you get...um, only thirty minutes, tops, if you sing.

[Edgeworth sets down his cup of tea, then stands.]

Would there be much to learn from singing? At the moment, I merely hope to gain a firsthand understanding of such a body which could help me better grasp the differences in anatomy and movement. Even for that, however, half an hour ought to suffice.

[Even as he speaks, the prosecutor begins walking towards the water.]

[Kay jumps up to follow him, a hand exploring her bag to make sure her phone was close by for a photo, a video, or both.]

The transformation is going to hurt a bit, and if you want to take it off, don't do it while underwater!

The latter point is one any idiot could have guessed.

[The former point, however, prompts Edgeworth to seek a spot where one can enter deep water quickly while still being on stable, non-slippery ground above water for the change. Unfortunately, the rock where Kay was perched before is enough of a swim away for it to be highly inconvenient to traverse with both an object in his hand and dolphin interference, so he'll have to settle for a closer spot. If he can't find a good diving-off point, the edge of the beach will have to do instead.]

Mr. Edgeworth, over there!

[Kay points to the right - to where the beach and the rock faces surrounding the lagoon meet. Sure enough, there is a ledge just wide enough for a person to walk on, encircling the cliffs halfway. It's the perfect spot for someone to dive into the deeper parts.]

That's easier, isn't it?

[Edgeworth looks over to the ledge, then back to Kay.]

If your idea of "easier" is falling off a cliff into a substance I may or may not yet be able to breathe as a result of flailing due to disorientation or thrashing in pain, yes. I'm attempting to locate a place where I can safely lie down during the change, then immediately enter the water afterward with no trouble.

[yatagarasu]

Then, you could go to my rock? [Kay points next to where she had been sitting when Edgeworth arrived.] It's pretty convenient.

[truthsnomiracle]

[Edgeworth looks out towards it with a frown.]

While I did consider that possibility, not only is it difficult for a human to swim far with one hand occupied, but the dolphins are rather intent on playing with me, which would further complicate such a matter.

[yatagarasu]

[Kay frowns as well, mimicking Edgeworth's...only a bit more exaggerated, as if she really is using logic right now.]

I'll swim out there with you, with the necklace! And tell the dolphins to move aside for a while.

You just like using that new icon, don't you. ;)

[truthsnomiracle]

[Edgeworth peers at Kay for her exaggerated "theft" of one of his poses, but once she presents her conclusion, he simply bows.]

That would be most appreciated.

[The prosecutor then heads towards the part of the beach where he emerged from the water earlier.]

I can't resist her SERIOUS BUSINESS face, it's too adorable

[She tags along, extending a hand for the choker.]

Plus, I'm the one with a bag. I'm guessing you don't have any pockets. [Kay lets out a giggle at the mental image of Edgeworth dressed like this, pulling out his prosecutor's badge from a pocket of his swimming trunks.]

Unfortunately no— wh-what are you laughing at?!

[yatagarasu]

[She raises her hand to her mouth, the picture of a chuckling, demure young lady...for about a second.]

Nothing, I just imagined you having pockets in your swimming trunks and pulling your prosecutor's badge from there.

You'd almost look like you were on vacation when a case popped up for you to solve!

Because this HAD to have happened to him during the Jerkworth years...

[truthsnomiracle]

Mmph. (As though a case hasn't already materialized under just such a circumstance.) Unfortunately, my badge is far too valuable to risk losing by placing it in the pocket of anything I intend to swim in.

[Edgeworth finally hands the choker to Kay.]

I don't dispute this, I would accept it as headcanon

Then pin it inside your pocket.

[She takes the choker and stashes it into her bag before sprinting toward the water, taking the time to splash in the shallows for a bit like a kid.]

Since you're probably gonna be taking on cases dressed like that more often.

[truthsnomiracle]

Hmph. The very idea...! (Nevertheless, she has a point. Given that I may need to present it to merpeople in the future, I should find a safe way to transport it while swimming.)

[Even as he ponders this, Edgeworth follows Kay into the water, though seems more intent on making it to the rock. He spares Kay a brief disapproving glance as he begins to wade past her.]

What are you gonna do then, have a waterproof version of your suit made? That'd still be hard to swim in, though.

[Kay bends down to pick something up from the shallows and she brightens up.]

Hey, this is a really nice shell!

[...distraction nation.]

[truthsnomiracle]

Do you intend to help or not?

[Edgeworth has already reached the edge of the shallows himself, after all. And the dolphins are already chirping at him.]

[yatagarasu]

[She straightens up after putting the shell in her bag, then hurries after Edgeworth.]

Sorry, sorry!

[Kay then surges past him into the deeper water, transforming as she does. As soon as she is among the dolphins, she gestures for them to swim aside.]

Okay, guys, break it up. I know you wanna play, but Mr. Edgeworth's got serious business. Why don't you come back later?

[The dolphins stop and stare at her, then scatter, many of them leaving through the tunnel.]

[truthsnomiracle]

[Edgeworth blinks at this particular approach to telling the dolphins what to do.]

Huh. I had expected you to speak more like they do, given that you often do the same with your seagull.

[The prosecutor wastes no time in taking to the water after saying this, however.]
