Choose a canon point, any canon point! Even from AAI2, why not.	7-8 years later, AJ/DD era. Prosecutor who studied under Miles Edgeworth. Still hyper and makes thief jokes. Still the Yatagarasu.

Lived with Edgeworth and Stitch. Recruited Ema, Trucy and Maya into the Yatagarasu. 19 years old. Had college plans.	Can command and talk to crows, replicate voices and sounds perfectly, and use Charter Magic. Juror for Teen Court.

(I suppose there is some merit in gaining firsthand experience of holding one's breathing mode, if nothing else.)

[Edgeworth swims towards the surface, takes a deep breath as he nears it, then holds it, resisting the urge to exhale as he pokes his head out of the water for about five seconds. He's quick to let himself sink again and catch fresh breaths of water, however.]

...aw, no jump? [She looks genuinely disappointed.]

You should really make the most out of your half-hour as a merman.

[Edgeworth "hovers" in the water by his tail's power alone as he crosses his arms.]

From my own perspective, making the most out of that half-hour means learning as much as I can. I fail to see what could be learned from jumping that could not have been learned by simply peeking out of the water as I just did.

[Kay glances at her phone. It's still running, and there's still a lot of time.]

Okay, apart from how merperople outclass humans when it comes to swimming, what else is there to learn?

How to survive drifting out at sea after a shipwreck? How to be an impromptu lifeguard?

Understanding our senses is important as well if I'm to interpret testimony properly. So far, it's grown clear that merpeople require less light than humans to see, and that we can sense and apply... an energy humans can't. [Edgeworth, just call that energy magic...] For that matter, I presume from your reaction before that merpeople normally have better self-control and awareness of other matters than I did when I was singing?

Of course. [Kay flips over so she's floating upside down while staring at Edgeworth, gesturing like it's no big deal and totally normal to be speaking upside down.]

We start early, when it comes to controlling your singing. That makes the difference.

[Edgeworth follows Kay's lead, moving to hang upside-down himself, but while it's not as disorienting as he remembers being upside-down to be as a human, he doesn't seem to find holding his position nearly as easy in this orientation. He can't easily use his primary propulsion to counteract gravity this way, after all...]

Gwuh — h-how do you do this?!

[yatagarasu]

[Kay clutches her sides as she laughs, then straightens herself up again. This is gold...and she remembers that she's going to have a record of this on her phone. Perfect.]

That takes practice, too! You've never done a handstand in a pool before, have you? What about a tumble turn?

Why are you laughing?!

[Apparently Kay's followup questions aren't nearly as important to Edgeworth's perceived dignity as that. Though clearly a vertical U-turn so he's right-side up again is.]

[Kay is still giggling - especially at the look on Edgeworth's face.]

[Unfortunately, laughing at himself is something that Edgeworth has never been able to do...]

If there is in fact some reason to laugh recorded therein, that's all the more reason not to distribute this video!

Chill out, I promised I wouldn't, didn't I? [At least she stops laughing.]

[The prosecutor cools off quickly, crossing his arms.]

You did agree to such a thing, yes. To return to the discussion, however, a handstand still involves supporting oneself against an unyielding surface, does it not? Water is rather different in that respect. (I recall how the lack of any ground on which to pin the jewel thief complicated our struggle...)

It's not as easy as it looks. I have friends who struggle and can't do it.

Can you?

Then it's not surprising you can't hang upside-down like I can.

[Is she a little smug? Maybe.]

What about a tumble turn? You must've picked that one up while learning how to swim, at least.

Er, yes, but I fail to see how a brief moment upside-down as part of a larger movement relates to the ability to suspend oneself in mid-water when one's tail is is pointing directly away from the pull of gravity and the sea floor is too far away to support oneself against!

[That "er" means he's not good at them, mind you...]

[Kay raises a finger as if she is delivering an important speech.]

...Therefore, verily, ergo, it takes practice!

My point, Kay, is that I fail to understand what precisely one would be practicing! One must be exercising some force to oppose gravity to accomplish such a feat, mustn't one?

[yatagarasu]

Yeah! But it's like weightlifting - you practice lifting those weights off the ground over and over until you get the hang of it!

Isn't that opposing gravity, too?

[truthsnomiracle]

When humans lift weights, they rarely risk having the ground give out beneath them. By contrast, a merperson must not only put conscious effort into supporting the weights with his or her arms, but paddle all the harder to stay in place with the added weight, mustn't they?

[yatagarasu]

Well, yeah...but oh. [Kay shrugs and chuckles.] Oh, right. This is your first time in a merman's body. See, merpeople have stronger, more flexible spines than humans. Obviously we'd have to if we have to live with this instead of legs, right? [She flicks her tail this way and that.

...never mind that technically, Kay can live half her life with a tail, and the other half with legs.]

[truthsnomiracle]

Indeed, I'd noticed that my lower back is involved in large motions of my tail. However, that in itself doesn't explain how precisely one manages to stay suspended while upside-down rather than simply spinning in place when one tries to bend far enough to have sufficient leverage and then exercise it.

[yatagarasu]

Sounds like it's time for a lesson!

[Kay makes a big show of clearing her throat.]

When you're upside down, pretend you're sitting - and extend your tail as you paddle downward. Then, you tuck your tail in while you move it upward! Think...umm, think of a jellyfish, or maybe flapping wings. Your pick!

[And to demonstrate, she does half a somersault and stops upside-down, and tries to maintain that position.]

[Edgeworth observes Kay's movements for a moment, then swims in a vertical half-circle while making a half-twist in order to end up both upside-down and facing Kay. He attempts the motion, but winces in discomfort during the tucked-in upward strokes and still ends up drifting downward and into a slow backward roll.]

Nnngh...! (Thus does it grow clear why she emphasized the need for practice.)
