Nngh... gkk... a-admittedly... I won't be... for much longer. But you do have a record... of the trail I just left... do you not?
(I have to return to the water... no, wait. That isn't actually natural for me, despite how it feels right now. I could simply remove the choker...)
[Kay has a bit of time to act as Edgeworth deliberates.]

[But Kay holds up her phone and pans it over Edgeworth, then follows the trail he left in the sand back to the sea, making sure she gets the markings clearly on video.]

[Though his arms feel like they're enclosed in weighted sleeves right now, Edgeworth lifts them to undo the clasp. He cries out as the change, far more painful, less natural, and slower for him than for Kay, overtakes him. The choker falls off his neck as he writhes in pain for those brief, personally-magnified seconds. In the end he's curled up on his side on the beach in human form, gasping for breaths that now come far more easily.]
no subject
Congratulations, you have successfully made one (1) mermaid worry about you.]
Mr. Edgeworth! Are you all right? [She grips the necklace tightly.] I'm sorry...
no subject
I'm... not sure...
[He brings himself up to an awkward sitting position.]
It all seemed so vivid...
no subject
But you know it was all real, right? You should rest...
no subject
[Edgeworth looks back to where he remembers himself moving along the beach, and his eyes widen. He may have intellectually known it was all real, but it's taking looking the evidence straight in the face for him to at all feel it. Even now, it feels like corroboration of something thought to be a hallucination.]
I, er, suppose now would be an appropriate time for us to sit and eat, though I should rinse this sand off first.
[The prosecutor stands.]
no subject
Her eyes light up with thrill, and she grabs his wrist, pulling him back toward the sea.]
The sooner you do that, the sooner we can eat!
no subject
Gnnk! Kay, it's entirely unnecessary to drag me!
no subject
But don't you want to run dramatically and excitedly into the water?
no subject
[And he'll just continue walking into the water, thank you very much.]

...in fact, when Edgeworth makes his way back, she wades up to him and splashes him. With both hands. For maximum splash power.]
no subject
[At least he doesn't sound angry, just unpleasantly surprised.]
no subject
Oh, nothing! I just wanted to splash you...again! [Loosen up, Edgeworth. Does she have to dunk you underwater too?]
no subject
[To judge by the fact that he's picking up the pace of his wading back onto the beach, he's not about to permit any dunking, young lady.]
no subject
At least she doesn't do anything else except follow him back.]
You were really serious about leaving having fun for last today, weren't you?
no subject
Why would I not be serious about that? There's a great deal for me to learn and precious little time to spare in even beginning to do so. On that note, I believe we left off in the middle of your explanation of the various artifacts you have here?

[With a laugh, Kay also leaves the water and is quick to grab her towel - at least she remembers which one is hers. She begins drying off, starting with her hair, which entails taking that large key out and undoing her ponytail.
Long hair problems.]
no subject
[If that was a tease, it backfired.
As Kay dries herself off, Edgeworth does the same in much the way he did before, idiosyncratic means of wringing out his hair and all.]
no subject
I'm gonna see you do that more often, aren't I? It never gets old!
no subject
I suppose you will. It is what it is; I fail to see why you find it quite that entertaining. (But at the very least, it's better than being amused by my humiliation.)
[That having been said, the prosecutor seats himself on the larger towel where they'll be eating.]
no subject
Okay, I brought...sandwiches, some fresh fruit, trail mix...and Swiss rolls, of course! [She continues rooting through her stash of food and drinks.] Are you still having iced tea?
