This is my permanent Kay Faraday open post. Spam me with prompts, picture prompts, AUs, and the like. Indicate canon point or universe when necessary. Please note that I don't do slash, smut, anything sexual or anything overly and excessively violent.

Choose a canon point, any canon point! Even from AAI2, why not.	7-8 years later, AJ/DD era. Prosecutor who studied under Miles Edgeworth. Still hyper and makes thief jokes. Still the Yatagarasu.

Lived with Edgeworth and Stitch. Recruited Ema, Trucy and Maya into the Yatagarasu. 19 years old. Had college plans.	Can command and talk to crows, replicate voices and sounds perfectly, and use Charter Magic. Juror for Teen Court.

Then it's not surprising you can't hang upside-down like I can.

What about a tumble turn? You must've picked that one up while learning how to swim, at least.

Er, yes, but I fail to see how a brief moment upside-down as part of a larger movement relates to the ability to suspend oneself in mid-water when one's tail is is pointing directly away from the pull of gravity and the sea floor is too far away to support oneself against!

[That "er" means he's not good at them, mind you...]

[yatagarasu]

[Kay raises a finger as if she is delivering an important speech.]

...Therefore, verily, ergo, it takes practice!

[truthsnomiracle]

My point, Kay, is that I fail to understand what precisely one would be practicing! One must be exercising some force to oppose gravity to accomplish such a feat, mustn't one?

[yatagarasu]

Yeah! But it's like weightlifting - you practice lifting those weights off the ground over and over until you get the hang of it!

Isn't that opposing gravity, too?

[truthsnomiracle]

When humans lift weights, they rarely risk having the ground give out beneath them. By contrast, a merperson must not only put conscious effort into supporting the weights with his or her arms, but paddle all the harder to stay in place with the added weight, mustn't they?

[yatagarasu]

Well, yeah...but oh. [Kay shrugs and chuckles.] Oh, right. This is your first time in a merman's body. See, merpeople have stronger, more flexible spines than humans. Obviously we'd have to if we have to live with this instead of legs, right? [She flicks her tail this way and that.

...never mind that technically, Kay can live half her life with a tail, and the other half with legs.]

[truthsnomiracle]

Indeed, I'd noticed that my lower back is involved in large motions of my tail. However, that in itself doesn't explain how precisely one manages to stay suspended while upside-down rather than simply spinning in place when one tries to bend far enough to have sufficient leverage and then exercise it.

[yatagarasu]

Sounds like it's time for a lesson!

[Kay makes a big show of clearing her throat.]

When you're upside down, pretend you're sitting - and extend your tail as you paddle downward. Then, you tuck your tail in while you move it upward! Think...umm, think of a jellyfish, or maybe flapping wings. Your pick!

[And to demonstrate, she does half a somersault and stops upside-down, and tries to maintain that position.]

[Edgeworth observes Kay's movements for a moment, then swims in a vertical half-circle while making a half-twist in order to end up both upside-down and facing Kay. He attempts the motion, but winces in discomfort during the tucked-in upward strokes and still ends up drifting downward and into a slow backward roll.]

Nnngh...! (Thus does it grow clear why she emphasized the need for practice.)

[yatagarasu]

[Kay eases herself back into an upright position while Edgeworth struggles through the routine, and more peals of mischievous laughter follow. She covers her mouth, reducing the laughter to uncontrollable giggling.]

Is learning how to flip yourself upside-down important to your investigation, though? Or did you just want to do it to say you can?

[truthsnomiracle]

[Edgeworth huffs in frustration, then swims back into an upright position.]

Understanding how simple or difficult certain maneuvers are may prove important to understanding how incidents played out or who might be capable of certain actions.

[yatagarasu]

[The snickering stops, thankfully.]

You're on a roll with this "thinking of everything" thing, aren't you?

[truthsnomiracle]

It is important for me to do my best to do precisely that, regardless of any distractions that may exist. After all, if I fail to understand basic matters about merpeople, I'll make a fool of myself and the truth could easily be lost. Reasoning must proceed from basic premises.

[yatagarasu]

[She glances at the phone video briefly.]

Okay then, what else do you need to know? Then again, if we use up your time here, you could always come back.

[truthsnomiracle]

Are there any objects down here that would be too slippery for a human to easily handle? Given that items in the sea are liable to become slick with algae, I'm left to wonder whether we're better adapted to handling such things.

[yatagarasu]

[A shake of the head, and an expression of distaste.]

No way, I make sure this place is clean! And no, algae is always slippery and gross no matter who you are. We just developed a thousand and one ways to clean it off everything.

[truthsnomiracle]

I see. (That might well have complicated their prehistory... though the only point that's relevant today is that we cannot simply handle slimy objects which humans cannot.) Have you designed preventative measures as well?

[yatagarasu]

I don't have to. It's as simple as finding animals that eat it, or inventing tools that do the job. One of the worst chores you can get saddled with is having to painstakingly scrape algae off something.

[Kay briefly makes a disgusted face.]

[truthsnomiracle]

I meant "you" in the collective sense of your society, since apparently I'm not part of it.

[Which feels particularly wrong to him right now — he should not merely be responsible for the enforcement of society's rules, but their creation — but intellectually he knows there's no rational reason why he should trust that feeling. It's just his song nagging at him...]

A pity that there's no escaping the pervasiveness of such a pest, even if undersea society has also presumably bred some useful varieties. After all, I've already conceived of one use for it — [the replenishment of oxygen in containers of air he proposed shortly before Kay mentioned the choker, that is] — and I doubt merpeople would differ from humans in preferring to domesticate lesser species.

[yatagarasu]

Yeah, it's actually useful even though it gets on everything. [Kay makes a gesture as if smoothing the surface of a table with both hands.]

What'd you think of? Since we've had to live with algae and all these little plants and stuff for years and years, of course we'd figure out ways to make 'em useful.

[truthsnomiracle]

As I mentioned before this stage of things began, its use along with light for replenishment of oxygen in containers of air.

[yatagarasu]

Ohhh, that. [Kay shrugs, folds her arms behind her head and lies on her back, floating lazily.] Yeah, we've looked into getting oxygen out of plants. Isn't that the logical thing to do once we discovered that plants give off oxygen?

[truthsnomiracle]

Indeed so. Has undersea society domesticated anything else in ways that don't directly parallel human achievements?

[Things like basic agriculture are obvious, after all.]
