[Kay brings out a couple of bottles before closing the water cooler and placing them on the lid. After that, she looks at something...possibly behind the water cooler.

She watches Edgeworth and the dolphins around him with amusement on her face, folding her arms across her chest in a casual imitation of one of his classic poses.]

If all that swimming has made you thirsty, I've got water, juice, and iced tea!

[Not to mention an entire picnic basket lurking behind the water cooler. How she got all that here without anything getting waterlogged...well, she had her ways.]

I only hope the latter is of any reasonable quality.

[Because let's face it, a lot of mass market bottled iced teas are brewed from bottom-of-the-barrel leaves and oversweetened as though to compete with soda.

The prosecutor doesn't seem to be hurrying as much as he was at the start, though he keeps his progress as steady as the situation allows without dissuading the dolphins' affection. Mere nudges and commentary weren't that bad, truth be told.]

It wasn't easy to find good iced tea, you know!

[She might be a bit too far for him to see, but there is a twinkle in Kay's eyes as she observes Edgeworth tolerating the dolphins at least, and possibly enjoying their company at best.]

We could even have a picnic, by the way.

I anticipated just such a thing, given that we'll be here all day. One cannot learn well on an empty stomach.

Should I spread the blanket now?

I don't see why not, though I'm not yet hungry. I ate before the boat disembarked.

[Kay brings out a red and white checkered picnic blanket and spreads it at the entrance of her cave of trinkets, weighing the corners down with stones. After that, she finds two dry towels - one to dry herself off, and another left neatly folded on the blanket for Edgeworth.]

Good thing you didn't get cramps on the way. [Kay...okay, she doesn't 100% believe in this but is mostly messing with him.] So, the boat's gonna come back for you?

[Meanwhile, Edgeworth isn't to the shallows yet thanks mainly to how often he's having to stop to answer questions, but he is finally within reach of them.]

It took over an hour to reach the buoy, so cramps were never a concern. As for the boat, I told the sailor I hired that I'll be returning sometime before dusk. Unfortunately, given the circumstances, I couldn't give him a more specific time, but yes, he will come back sometime during the afternoon.

[She dries her hair, then moves on to her clothes, arms, and finally her legs before spreading the towel out on a nearby smooth rock to dry in the sun. Then she leaves two bottles - iced tea and apple juice - on the blanket before fetching two plastic cups from her basket.

After sitting down cross-legged on the blanket, Kay pours juice into the baby blue cup, leaving the pink one, of course. She sips, emphasizing her casual manner as if it's taking an eternity for Edgeworth to reach the shore.]

[Edgeworth is unperturbed by this behavior; frankly, he is taking a while thanks to various delays, and Kay going quiet actually helps in that respect, even despite the implied commentary. Of course, now that he's almost to the shallows, one of the dolphins seems to be actually getting in his way, apparently wanting him to stay and "play" some more. He has to take a breath and dive under said dolphin in order to get past it. He quickly resurfaces, then picks up his pace slightly, avoiding further nudging now in order to reach the shallows quickly.

Once the water is too shallow for comfortable swimming, the prosecutor stands and approaches the blanket.]

[Kay puts down her cup and offers the folded towel to Edgeworth once he's on dry land.]

It took you over an hour to reach the buoy? I thought it'd take a shorter time than that...

[Edgeworth holds the top of his left set of bangs between his left index and middle finger in a scissor-like grip, then does the same with those of his right hand just below his left hand's fingers and pulls down, thus wringing that half of his bangs out.]

The boat I took wasn't built for speed, but for safe travel through shallow water and the safety of any animals in its vicinity. Under the circumstances, it seemed only reasonable to take such precautions.

[By the time Edgeworth finishes saying this, he's wrung out his other set of bangs, finished his approach, and picked up the towel left for him. He dries off his legs and torso first.]

Furthermore, we did have to spend some amount of time searching for it as well.

[Kay watches him with interest as he wrings out his bangs.]

Hee, that's a neat trick! But that's probably not gonna work with the rest of your hair.

Indeed, that requires a slightly different approach.

[Edgeworth hangs the towel over his shoulders, holds his thumbs and index fingers just behind his bangs as though to form a headband, then firmly pulls his fingers over his head with the tips of his thumbs acting as a pivot point most of the way through. Notably, the tiny bit of hair that sticks out from the back of his head is only partly pushed down in this process, and quickly pops back out to its usual angle.]

[She giggles, continuing to sip her juice. That's...a new way to dry hair. Pity he can't seem to slick back that bit of hair at the back of his head.]

Do you do this often just so you don't mess up your hair while drying it?

Indeed. My bangs in particular require such care to retain their order. ...Is there something amusing about it?

[As he speaks, Edgeworth takes the towel from around his shoulders and continues to dry off.]

Well, it's not exactly something a lot of people do, I think. [Kay's shoulders lift in a shrug.] People would just towel their hair and comb it out afterward.

[Edgeworth spreads out his towel on the rock next to Kay's as she speaks, then seats himself on the blanket.]

If I did that, my bangs would become far less orderly, much as they were when I was a boy, until I put effort into styling them once more.

[Kay leans to her left and points out the lock of hair still sticking up from the back of Edgeworth's head.]

It doesn't seem to work for that part of your hair, though. [She takes a swig from her cup of juice.]

[Apparently, that's a bit of a sore spot with Edgeworth, to judge by his annoyed expression as he moves the pink cup closer to him, then takes the bottle of iced tea.]

Nor, admittedly, does anything else.

[She stares at him for a brief moment; boy, he must have tried so many different things to get it to stay down. Most likely, it would continue to stick up no matter how wet his hair was, even after swimming from the buoy to the lagoon and then to the shore.]

...Well, I'll let you know if we come up with something for that. [And by "we", she means, "we merpeople". Which is kind of a long shot, but anyway.]

Your attentiveness is most appreciated.

[As Edgeworth says this, he pours himself a quarter of a bottle of the iced tea. He then picks the cup up and sips at it experimentally...]

...Huh. I'm impressed that you managed to find a bottled iced tea of moderate quality.

[Kay grins widely and tries to perform a fancy bow...while seated.]

Thank you! I worked my way down 'cause the best ones were pretty expensive. Plus, I had to stock up on food for the two of us...especially since you'll probably be swinging by here more often from now on.

For that to be the case, I'll need to make longer-term arrangements for transport — and your own planning will need to be better.

[Read, no more forcing me to swim through a tunnel long enough to make me uncomfortably short of breath without the ring, kthx.]

Hey, I remembered the food, the drinks, the guards who'll turn away any curious human divers...

[What else? She thinks, looking at him over the rim of her cup. Wait...]
