[Edgeworth stands, turns, and points out the thick binder of notes in question sitting on the same desk Kay is sitting at. Given the mess, it's no surprise that it's not easy to tell what's what at a glance.]

I was rather impressed by the thoroughness of his analysis of various claims concerning hypnosis.

Clearly he cared about his own research far more than he did about his job — to the point that he committed a crime simply to avoid dealing with the latter for very long, even if Ms. Gusse wrongly believed that humiliation alone would be punishment enough.

[Kay nods, and takes the binder in question, opening it and trying to prop it up against another stack of files so she can scan it while attempting more passwords.]

You can't blame a person if they're more passionate about something else, Mr. Edgeworth...but it'd be great if he were passionate about doing good with what he likes.

Certainly I don't blame him for his passion, merely the excesses he allowed it to drive himself to and the apparent lack of concern for others that made such excess possible.

[A lot of the unfamiliar terms Kay notices in the text are the right length to fit as passwords, but singular unmodified words are typically discouraged as passwords. However, one set of terms is notable for direct mention of numbers in their discussion: passing references to "beta", "alpha", "theta", and "delta" brainwaves, each associated with ranges of frequencies in hertz — though the notes point out many inconsistencies in the frequencies cited by various hypnosis-related sources and advises referencing the neurology notes for more useful information. "Beta" is described as normal waking consciousness, "alpha" and "theta" as different defaults predominant in altered states, and "delta" as primarily associated with normal sleep.]

[She squints at the words on the binder pages. Boy, any one of these could be the password...right now she's just mechanically inputting whatever she can think of.]

It's really sad when something like that is -

[Kay's typing and speaking are both cut off when she hits the enter key - and she is rewarded by the sight of the desktop and several folders. She gasps, pushing herself back from the desk in surprise.]

Wait, I did it! I got it! [She jumps to her feet.]

[Edgeworth was just about to return to his own part of the investigation when Kay manages to bring up the desktop.]

Ah, so I see. Well done, Kay.

[And with that drop of praise, the prosecutor returns to sifting through the files in the second desk for anything of use.]

(It's entirely possible that for the moment, Kay has access to the more important source of evidence.)

The password was "beta60". Thanks! [She spreads her arms and performs an elegant but rather exaggerated bow.

Then she plops herself back into the chair.]

Time to see what he's hiding in his computer!

Huh. (I only barely glanced at that section of the notes, but I seem to recall the numbers listed never ranging quite so high when the sources he cited bothered to list an upper limit at all. I wonder what inspired her to try that value in particular. Perhaps precisely because it's too high, yet still in the proper direction compared to the rest?)

[Even as Edgeworth wonders this, he continues flipping through files.

On the computer, most of the visible files and folders look less than incriminating, but a quick change of settings to show hidden files and a second look around reveals a number of folders scattered around the file system with names referring back to various terms in the notes. Notably, this includes a "binaural" folder in the sound file folder, an "inductions" folder in the video file folder, a "subjects" folder in among his text files, and a "suggestions" folder inside a folder of programming code. Unfortunately, many files in the folders in question are compressed, encrypted, and password-protected.]

[Kay squints at the monitor, opening a few files and folders that can easily be read without having to type in any more passwords. Then she also clicks on the Internet browser.]

I wonder how good the Internet is...he's got some stuff bookmarked. Pages about neurology, hypnosis, even sound mixing...

[She stares at the browser and waits for a page to load.]

Seems like this might take a while.

Hmph. It should come as no surprise that it would be difficult to obtain anything more than the most basic Internet access out in the woods like this. Under the circumstances, I suggest searching through the bookmarks themselves for anything that seems out of place and only attempting to visit those sites in particular.

[By the time Edgeworth finishes dispensing this advice, he's finished looking through the second desk's large lower drawers.]

If it wouldn't disturb your own investigation, I believe I should look through the lower drawers of the desk you're currently sitting at next. It seems likely to yield information that would be of direct use to your efforts due to the ease of access.

[Kay nods and closes the tab she had just opened.]

I don't mind. Some of these files are encrypted; I gotta crack them too.

[Edgeworth closes the drawer he was looking through.]

Then your prior request that I seek any sign of likely passwords has grown all the more important.

[The prosecutor takes a few steps over to the mouth of the "U" of desks, kneels down at an angle away from Kay in order to give her as much personal space as he can, and opens the lower left drawer of the first desk. Much like the ones from before, this one is full of files that he wastes no time in beginning to search through.]

Yeah, I don't think he's the type to use the same password for everything.

[Swinging her legs from the seat in anticipation of the thrill of a search, Kay attempts to use the same password anyway.]

Fiddlesticks! I knew it.

[truthsnomiracle]

[Edgeworth doesn't even look up from his search at this.]

In the meantime, you have other angles of investigation to pursue, do you not?

Yup, it's time to find more passwords! They won't be hidden for long!

(That wasn't quite what I meant by "other angles of investigation", but if she believes she has any promising leads concerning passwords for the encrypted files, then I see no reason to object. The bookmarks aren't going anywhere any more than the encrypted files are, after all, even if they are more easily accessed.)

[As rash as Kay could be, after all, she at least didn't seem the type to do something drastic to a computer in frustration or anger.

Edgeworth soon resumes his flipping through the various folders in the drawer, eventually pausing at one in particular.]

[yatagarasu]

[Kay's fingers fly across the keyboard as she attempts to crack the files and folders. She attempts to extract some files, only to be met with a dialog box asking for a password.]

Maybe this password is related to the first one, at least...?

[Edgeworth grins like a cat having spied a mouse as he pulls a sheet of paper covered in various nonsensical strings of characters, each twelve characters long, from the folder he paused at.]

If this is what it appears it could be, then you should have less work to do than before.

[The prosecutor wastes no time in holding the paper up so Kay can reach it easily.]

[Kay leans away from the computer to get a glimpse of what Edgeworth is holding up. Slowly, realization and triumph dawn upon her face, and she pumps an energetic fist in to the air.]

Awesome! You hit the jackpot, Mr. Edgeworth!

Of course. Most people can only memorize so many passwords, after all.

[There is one downside to this document, however: there's no indication of what password goes with what. It's just a two-column, double-spaced series of twelve-character strings.]

[Kay extends a hand for the paper.]
