This is my permanent Kay Faraday open post. Spam me with prompts, picture prompts, AUs, and the like. Indicate canon point or universe when necessary. Please note that I don't do slash, smut, anything sexual or anything overly and excessively violent.

Choose a canon point, any canon point! Even from AAI2, why not.	7-8 years later, AJ/DD era. Prosecutor who studied under Miles Edgeworth. Still hyper and makes thief jokes. Still the Yatagarasu.

Lived with Edgeworth and Stitch. Recruited Ema, Trucy and Maya into the Yatagarasu. 19 years old. Had college plans.	Can command and talk to crows, replicate voices and sounds perfectly, and use Charter Magic. Juror for Teen Court.

Uh...do you need a guinea pig again to listen to the sound files...?

Given that we don't know their contents, that could prove rather dangerous. I don't wish to cause you harm, nor be responsible for you harming anyone. If we wish to test that possibility, it would be safer to search the computer to see whether there is, in fact, such a means of modifying a voice clip on it, then have me record something to be altered. In that way, we can be certain that it will be safe to listen to.

[Aw, Edgeworth cares.]

You mean...like a program? I better check if this computer has a microphone too, if you're going to record something.

Microphones can be rather small. If you don't see one connected to the computer, it might simply be in one of the drawers I haven't checked.

[Of which there are twelve: the two lockless middle ones for each desk, and the two lockable top ones for each desk. While there isn't a microphone connected to the computer right now, it's one of several small devices to be found in the middle right drawer of the desk Kay is sitting at right now.]

[Kay looks behind the monitor, and under and behind the papers. She stands up to get a better look of the back of the desk.]

Doesn't look like one's attached...

Then let us begin searching.

[Edgeworth checks the middle drawers of the second desk first.]

Huh. There are some ordinary-looking wired headphones here.

But we're looking for microphones this time, not headphones...wait, why does he need other headphones?

[truthsnomiracle]

The ones he created would hardly be of use for purposes that don't involve hypnotizing the wearer.

[yatagarasu]

Making his subjects just get used to the sound of his voice? Listening to music in between hypnosis sessions?

[truthsnomiracle]

Many of his uses of these headphones probably had nothing to do with hypnosis whatsoever. Others may have involved making some of the sound files work properly, as by my understanding of his notes, certain techniques for producing altered states involve making different ears hear subtly different pitches. Still others may have involved testing his voice-altering techniques on others without exposing himself to the results, in order to refine those techniques before building the walkie-talkie and headphones around them. This is all speculation, of course, but my point is that there are myriad reasons why he would have an ordinary set of headphones.

[Really, Kay.]

Hey, you never know what he's done to those headphones inside! With the mechanism and all that!

Then once we find a microphone, we should make certain that these headphones are ordinary. It should be possible to simply set things up on the computer such that it would take the microphone's input and output it directly to the headphones for such a test, should it not?

[Checking the other drawer of the second desk now. Nope, just various office supplies there...]

Of course! That's simple enough. Need a hand with the drawers?

The desk you're sitting at is the most likely to contain what we're seeking, so it would be more convenient for us both if you checked it.

[Meanwhile, Edgeworth removes the presumed normal headphones from inside the second desk. They're a simple black set with a cord, and look to be high-end. Unlike the hypnotic ones, they don't have antennae of any kind.]

[She bends down to the side to open the first unlocked drawer she sees - and lo and behold - ]

Bingo! [Kay sweeps up a microphone.]

[truthsnomiracle]

Excellent. We should set up the test for the default behavior of these immediately, then.

[Edgeworth hands Kay the plainer headphones so she can set things up.]

[yatagarasu]

[Kay takes the headphones with a nod, and hooks them up. Then she plugs in the microphone as well. After a few adjustments, she hands the headphones to Edgeworth, and takes the mic.]

Okay, lemme know if you hear my voice through those headphones.

[truthsnomiracle]

[Under the circumstances, Edgeworth doesn't put the headphones on, instead simply holding them up to one ear.]

I can, and it sounds entirely normal. I believe these are in fact ordinary headphones.

[yatagarasu]

[She lowers the microphone away from her lips.]

So, is that all for this part of the investigation? No other weird headphones except for the ones you used to hypnotize me?

[truthsnomiracle]

Not quite. The fact that we've verified that these headphones are ordinary means that they can be considered a neutral carrier of any sounds to be tested.

[Like any modified by any unusual sound filters Kay may find as she continues to investigate the computer.]

Then it's time to see if even a Great Thief like me can steal Mr. Erickson's file-modifying techniques!

[Just because she can work Little Thief doesn't mean she's an all-around technophile.]

(Better her "stealing" such techniques than Gumshoe more likely than not accidentally deleting them.)

[Though either would be better at this branch of the investigation than Edgeworth. As for what he can do, Edgeworth sets the headphones down on the desk Kay is at, next to the mousepad, then turns to the third desk to check its middle drawers.]

I've found his tools for assembling and modifying electronic devices, if nothing else.

[If Kay checks, among Mr. Erickson's various programs is a standard sound-editing program. One of the menus in said programs features a list of filters one can subject a recorded sound to, quite a few of which are standard things like echo, pitch bending, noise removal, fading in or out, and the like... but two pop out as unusual. One is labeled "Binaural", and the other "Impel v.3.1".]

[Kay begins digging through the rest of the stuff on the computer. She opens a sound-editing program, clicks on the menu...]

There's an entire list of filters for sounds! And I think I've found what he uses for his hypnosis...

[Edgeworth closes the drawers he's looking into and spins around, his brow furrowed again.]

Oh? Do tell.

[yatagarasu]

[She shudders a little; those file names were quite ominous.]

One is named, "Binaural" and the other is..."Impel v. 3.1.". Someone's been hard at work finding the perfect filter.
