Open Post: The Kay Faraday Edition
This is my permanent Kay Faraday open post. Spam me with prompts, picture prompts, AUs, and the like. Indicate canon point or universe when necessary. Please note that I don't do slash, smut, anything sexual or anything overly and excessively violent.

Choose a canon point, any canon point! Even from AAI2, why not.	7-8 years later, AJ/DD era. Prosecutor who studied under Miles Edgeworth. Still hyper and makes thief jokes. Still the Yatagarasu.

Lived with Edgeworth and Stitch. Recruited Ema, Trucy and Maya into the Yatagarasu. 19 years old. Had college plans.	Can command and talk to crows, replicate voices and sounds perfectly, and use Charter Magic. Juror for Teen Court.

[Though either would be better at this branch of the investigation than Edgeworth. As for what he can do, Edgeworth sets the headphones down on the desk Kay is at, next to the mousepad, then turns to the third desk to check its middle drawers.]

I've found his tools for assembling and modifying electronic devices, if nothing else.

[If Kay checks, among Mr. Erickson's various programs is a standard sound-editing program. One of the menus in said programs features a list of filters one can subject a recorded sound to, quite a few of which are standard things like echo, pitch bending, noise removal, fading in or out, and the like... but two pop out as unusual. One is labeled "Binaural", and the other "Impel v.3.1".]

[Kay begins digging through the rest of the stuff on the computer. She opens a sound-editing program, clicks on the menu...]

There's an entire list of filters for sounds! And I think I've found what he uses for his hypnosis...

[Edgeworth closes the drawers he's looking into and spins around, his brow furrowed again.]

Oh? Do tell.

[yatagarasu]

[She shudders a little; those file names were quite ominous.]

One is named, "Binaural" and the other is..."Impel v. 3.1.". Someone's been hard at work finding the perfect filter.

[truthsnomiracle]

[Though to Edgeworth, the filenames aren't quite as ominous as when Kay described his modified voice as fifty times more powerful than his court presentation...]

I would imagine making something a victim would perceive as being as persuasive as what you described would be no simple accomplishment.

It's just those two that don't seem...well, normal. Think of the poor saps who got roped into being his guinea pigs...

[Oh, he does... but rather than causing Edgeworth to fret, it makes him grin.]

Why, Kay, I do believe you're on to something.

[yatagarasu]

[She gawks at him. Hey, where's the sympathy for the poor saps?]

On to what? Feeling sorry for all the people Mr. Erickson went through just to get to version three-point-oh?

The fact that these test subjects, or at the very least one such test subject, must exist. If we can learn who that is, we may be able to learn something of value from them. For that matter, they may have been involved in the crime in some fashion themselves, whether or not they're aware of it.

In short, we'd have witnesses!

Precisely. They may not necessarily be witnesses to the crime itself, but certainly they'd entail witnesses to Mr. Erickson's experiments leading up to his ability to plan and execute that crime. Such an unusual capability as this is something which needs to be proven from as many angles as possible in order to establish it as a credible method of turning someone into a murder weapon.

Sounds like we'll have to find them when we're done with this hideout...

Verily. In the meantime, we'll need to keep an eye out for any evidence as to their identities while we continue to investigate this place.

[Edgeworth then reaches for the normal headphones again and offers them to Kay.]

For now, I believe our next step should be to verify that the "Impel" filter is what it appears to be — with your permission, of course. If I'm right, the modification of my voice you said you heard through the other headphones while hypnotized involves this filter being applied.

Okay...but don't steal my name again!

[She says this mostly in jest, but it's an odd feeling, not remembering her name.]

[truthsnomiracle]

[And it's an easy joke to see coming.]

Hmph. There'd be nothing more to prove by doing that in particular to you again. Now, adjust the settings such that things said into the microphone will be recorded without being directly piped to the headphones, but sounds played by the computer itself will be heard through them.

[yatagarasu]

Right! Let's see... [Kay searches for the microphone settings, clicks a few things...]

So, if I speak into the mic, the computer will record it, but it won't be heard through the headphones. But if we play the file back, we'll be able to hear it through the headphones?

[Does she have this right?]

[truthsnomiracle]

I will be the one speaking, and I intend for the Impel filter to be run on the recorded voice clip before it's played back for you, but otherwise yes.

[Of course, these plain headphones won't completely screen out outside noise the way the invented ones do, but they should at least muffle things enough to make it difficult to make out exactly what he's saying into the microphone until it's played back.]

...Y'know, I could just not wear the headphones while it's recording, and then I'll put them on when it's played back. That's when we get that filter on?

My intent is for you not to hear, or at the very least not to clearly hear, what it is I'm recording until after the filter is applied. Knowing what precisely to expect might leave you more ready to resist or otherwise alter your reaction.

[And yes, Edgeworth does have an order in mind.]

All right...

[Kay moves the mouse around and after a couple of clicks, she nods; it's ready.]

I should cover my ears while you're talking...

Or perhaps step outside.

[Edgeworth steps aside in what little space the "U" of desks offers so she can pull out from the computer's desk easily.]

Or, I put on the chunky headphones with the antennae!

...Given that it does have a panel in the way of its power switch to prevent it from being turned on or off by accident, I suppose there's no harm in that.

[Kay moves toward the third part of the desk and picks up the headphones again. Then she puts them back onto her head, and gives Edgeworth a thumbs-up.]

[truthsnomiracle]

[Edgeworth nods, then seats himself at the computer and takes the microphone plugged into it.]

(Given her recurring, insistent requests to pick the locks of the desks despite our not having even tried to find the keys, what would constitute an order that would be both be harmless and have a chance of prompting any resistance is obvious. Now, where's the Record button?...)

[Edgeworth spots it quickly, however, and clicks it with the mouse before speaking firmly into the microphone:]

Help me search the cabin for any keys to the desks that might be present.

[Th prosecutor ends the recording, then looks for the "Impel v.3.1" filter Kay mentioned. It takes him nearly a minute, but he does locate and run it. The waveform display on the screen changes almost imperceptibly, then Edgeworth moves the mouse pointer to the Play button and stands.]
