yatagarasu: (EDGEWORTH ☄ we will rock you)

kay ruins (almost) everything edgeworth loves [closed]

[It's rare for Kay and Edgeworth to find days when they can just relax and unwind without a murder suddenly happening in their midst, and when they do, Kay never misses an opportunity to make the most out of them. Edgeworth? Well, he has a plucky young assistant to make sure he does the same.

So here they are, playing chess...and it's pretty obvious Kay is losing. In a bid to try and turn this game around, she attempts to move her queen, by jumping over a pawn. Which is, of course, not a proper chess move.]

King me!

[This is not checkers, Kay.]

I mean, queen me! Eat my queen's dust!

[She is also a very noisy chess player.]

Kay! Quit being ridiculous! This is certainly not how you play chess.

[He huffed, rubbing his fingers over his temples. As much as he enjoyed Kay's shenanigans sometimes, he didn't know if he had the energy to keep up with her spirited ventures.]

Did you need for me to go over the rules once again? A queen cannot jump over pieces. Only Knights can do that. However you can still move diagonally, vertically or horizontally. You may take out that pawn if you wish. Or you can aim for my bishop over here.

[He was going to need another refill of his tea cup soon. Perhaps his oncoming headache was more caffeine deprivation if anything.]

Do not trust anyone Kay, not even me. The first rule of chess. Know your opponent.

[Wait a go and be an ass Miles. He sacrificed his bishop in order to free up his queen which easily overtook hers.]

Be aware of all the surrounding pieces. You have to be know where your opponent with strike next. It is the same in the courtroom.

And most importantly a little bit of patience will go a long way.

[The self-satisfied smirk that was on his face was dampened slightly at her comment.]

No reason to provide low blows, Kay. Goodness.

[He leaned back in his chair and took a sip from his now cold cup of tea. Making a face he placed it down and stood up to heat some more water.]

Fret not, the game isn't lost until you lose your king. Sometimes we need to make sacrifices in order to win the war. Did you want another cup of tea? I'm about to make some for myself.

.[He poured some water into an electric kettle and set it to boil before picking up both the empty teacups.]

Well, now you have learned something new. There are many things one can know after they lose prices. Think of it as if you are making the initial investivagions during one of your heists.

Not that he condoned such behaviors. It was a hypothetical example after all.

You still need to plan as well as have patience and read the situation much like chess.

No. That would be immensely illegal for me to do, In any regard. What I am trying to say is that the rules of chess can be applied to a variety of life situations.

[He finished preparing the tea, placing milk and sugar into Kays and setting it down in front of her. The girl could be a handful but he enjoyed her enthusiasm.]

I know. And you know that your efforts are greatly appreciated, Kay.

[He sat back down across from her renewed cup of tea in hand.]

Are you ready to continue forth?

[Miles set the tea down on the end table next to him. He moved his knight over to the right. Better to lull her into a false sense of security.]

Don't allow me to get in your head, Kay.
