I'M FEELING THIS BOZO

[personal profile] attorneyatlogic 2017-08-12 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
[If Edgeworth has learned anything from the past two years or so, it's that the strange can happen at any given time, and take any given form. In fact, he himself must be strange as well, walking around armed with a saber sheathed and resting on his hip. He did have a gun, but it was easier to exert more control over a sword and its strikes than a bullet fired from a gun.

So, he's not fazed by the fact that he's standing out here in the rain, clad in a long hooded gray cloak and standing with a woman who seems to be more experienced with this sort of thing than he was. Although much of the rain is kept away from his hair and the rest of his clothes, it was a nuisance to have water trickling into his eyes and onto his face. He regrets not bringing an umbrella for his companion, but right now, this was not the time for regrets.

Edgeworth tugs his hood down a bit, even though that was as low as it could go, and any lower and it would begin to obscure his vision. He squints through the steady wall of rain and brushes a hand across his eyes before gripping the hilt of his saber with the same hand.

His response is a resolute nod.]

Indeed. Lead the way, Miss Valentine. [Slowly, he draws his blade.] I will watch your back.

[This, in Edgeworth's view, was not running away; this was a strategy, which monsters were generally not very good at.]
torsion: (back body drop.)

i kept reading it with a comma and i thought you were calling me a bozo lmao

[ Jill wishes she had her cap right about now, it'd make for a little more clarity in her view. She'd just have to trust instinct and that anything she might miss that he may manage to catch before she does. Everything, including this kind of discomfort, was more palatable with a partner. ]

Much appreciated. [ It's hard to miss the sharp quirk in her smile over his politeness, only a slight pause before she starts off to ensure the conversation is more direct and meaningful. ] Jill's fine. Everyone else just calls me that.

[ Maya had taken to her pretty quickly when it came to that particular group, but she and Chris also promised a feast fit for kings when this was over and done with. Admittedly they didn't talk about much other than food between them, but it was still easy and lighthearted, something she and Chris often lacked most days. The simplicity of it all was nice.

She hesitates before dipping under an awning, checking the handle before popping out her lockpick kit and easily hearing the telltale click of a job well-done. If he hadn't caught it, the little fistpump and the return of the kit to her back pouch should be enough to indicate her success. She opens it enough for him to slip into the building -- a cafe bar, it seems, boasting fresh pasta on the exterior -- and then for her to silently follow suit.

She wastes no time spilling more water on the floor, even if she feels guilt over it. Hair squeezed into more puddles, she makes a sound.
]

We should go out the back and try to work the alleyways. It puts both sides at a disadvantage, but it's a greater advantage to us since we're outnumbered. Might be able to shake 'em by slipping on by, too.
attorneyatlogic: (Of course I watched all of Star Wars.)

AHAHAHA I'm so sorry, I just play bozos

[It would take a while for Edgeworth to break his habit of calling her "Miss Valentine" but the reminders would really help. He doesn't reply, but he'll make a mental note of that as they forge onward.

He stays close to her, watching her work with lockpicks and thinking that she would either be an inspiration or a bad influence to a few people he knew - Maya included. Still, her skill was very useful at a time like this, and he catches her little display of success. It was...endearing, in a way. When the door is open for him, he enters it, giving her a nod and a small smile of approval. Although he does not wring his hair or his coat out, he does leave a trail of water as he steps into the cafe bar and casts a glance over the furnishings.]

Sounds like a plan. [Edgeworth looks over at the kitchen behind the bar and the tables, and walks to it slowly.] They probably have a back door here.

...I'd rather avoid battle if we can. [He adds that as an afterthought.]
torsion: (european uppercut.)

MY FAULT FOR READING IT LIKE I TYPE, it's fine I play mostly the same :')

[ It's nothing she isn't used to with her clearance level, although it typically will forgo the miss and just be Valentine or sir in those situations. She prefers as a whole to work with people on the same level as herself -- partnerships, when given the option. It's a different kind of camaraderie and trust you cultivate than on a full-blown team and not necessarily better, just something that someone with preference for solitude like her holds in high regard.

She moseys around the interior, looking for anything that they may make use of. Her packs are mostly full, but he might find something more useful than she would -- especially if she can grab them an extra flashlight just in case. She's done her fair share of throwing important items at enemies when she was in a rush and she doesn't doubt that any discipline he might have may squander when things get rough, too.
]

I didn't notice any kind of rooftop access, but we should be on the lookout for that. Bit harder to maneuver, but I can clear the path better for us from a vantage point. [ And see if there are any clearer paths, too. ] Honestly, I'm with you on that one. Even if I'm in my element in a fight, I don't go seeking them out.

[ She rounds the bar with a swerve of her hip, almost hopping the edge of it and starts to dig beneath it. She isn't thrilled to be ransacking the place, but there weren't many other options. Beneath the counter, she digs around, an elated sound huffs out when she finds a flashlight from her crouched position, raising it above her head with a straight arm. Jill gives it a wiggle. ]

Well, found you a little something just in case.

[Edgeworth, since he was already near the kitchen, also looks through the cupboards and the cabinets for anything useful. Considering where he was searching, he found mostly supplies and food, but there was a good collection of knives that he believes would come in handy.

Everything's packed up into a knapsack that carried the rest of Edgeworth's things - neatly, as well. Having done a fair chunk of traveling, he was a master of knowing how to pack and make the most out of a bag's space.

After walking out from where he had stocked up on the items he could use, he looks up at the ceiling and squints as he weaves through the tables. He searches for any sign of a loose tile or a cunningly hidden trapdoor. No dice. Certainly no rooftop access.

At the sight of the flashlight, Edgeworth smirks - but crosses the cafe hurriedly before Jill could even think of tossing it to him, and then extends a hand.]

This will definitely come in handy. Thank you. Perhaps we may find a ladder at the back that will lead to the roof.

[ Smart thinking, but she doesn't say anything on it since she's pretty sure it would sound a little condescending (even if it wasn't). He seemed confident in himself without her help, though if it came down to a fight she'd always be the first to tell someone that was a great shot or dodge. It felt more genuine in the moment than a simple thought -- although she knows as well as any that those thoughts aren't always immediate or simple.

Jill leans back against the counter top, almost comfortable but not quite. There's still a sense about her that she's ready to rumble at a moment's notice. Gazing up, she exaggerates a grimace.
]

Figures we'd have to do a bit of traveling, just wouldn't be fun if we didn't. [ It's too bad, she has a good aim. Still, Jill relinquishes the torch with a grin and digs through her packs to get him some batteries for good measure. Her hands are smaller than one might expect, but she manages to hold the pile like they aren't about to fall out. ] Here. Just in case something happens or I can't get to you on time, it's better that you have them. A lot of them can still be blinded by lights if we're strategic about it.

[ And naturally, she figures he's the sort to be strategic where and when possible. Sometimes you have to cat on the fly, but he's definitely a little like her she thinks. Somehow even when nerves should render, logic stills any panic. ]

Maybe. There's definitely a back way out if there's a kitchen, at least. [ Dumpster disposal is pretty standard and tracking through the restaurant would be a code violation. ] You want to dig around and see if there's something to drink or a snack first? Might be a while before we get a chance to rest again.

[ Damned Shadaloo. Among others, she supposed. Who knows who would end up taking credit for this? ]
